Dynamic Defense offers Advanced
classes in Wing Chun Kung Fu in addition to our
beginner/ mixed level classes. The Advanced Wing
Chun class is only available to students who have
successfully graded to Level 2 at our Academy or
another affiliate of the Canadian
Wing Chun Kung Fu Association.
Students who have Learned Another
Martial Art
You will find Wing Chun allows you
to progress very quickly compared to other martial arts
and we welcome you to our Academy. However, even if you
have 10 black belts in various martial arts, when you
start with us, you need to start in our beginner class
to get the basics of Wing Chun. Advanced Wing Chun
doesn't work without the basics. The focus in Advanced
Wing Chun class is on advanced techniques that depend on
the basics learned at the lower levels of our classes. If
you have experience with another martial art, that can
help you learn and advance quicker, but it doesn't allow
you to skip the beginner levels. As soon as a student
progresses to the correct Wing Chun level, they can
attend Advanced Class.
Advanced Wing Chun - What We Do
|
This
class is focused on advanced techniques including
open-hand defense applications, double-arm and
moving chi sao, crowd management, circle drills,
sparring, weapon forms and applications and other
advanced defense applications. The difference
between basic technique and *advanced* is
that the advanced techniques build on the basics.
Nothing we do in Advanced class will make any
sense to someone who has not done the basic levels
through our Wing Chun association. Some basics
(like kicking) are common to all martial arts, but
the basics of Wing Chun include unique elements to
our martial art.

Other Classes
Students who attend Advanced Class
must also attend some intermediate or All Levels
classes. The intermediate classes
have students level 2 and up in attendance, split
into conditioning and skills segments. Everyone gets to work on
level-appropriate material.

Serving The Whole
Student
We teach Wing
Chun, the world's most effective self defense system, but our
classes do much more, dealing with the students holistically,
refreshing the body, mind and spirit in a way no other activity or
martial art can do. Our classes are carefully designed to awaken
your whole body, focus and relax your mind and bring you fully
inside your own skin. Along with stretching and conditioning,
we teach real-world self-defense with fun and exciting
classes that brings every student to a higher level of confidence,
self esteem and personal empowerment.

The
Principles of Wing Chun
Wing Chun is a scientific and pragmatic system of self defense. All angles
and positioning are specifically designed for maximum speed, control and
simplicity in defense or counter attack. Unlike other martial arts, Wing Chun
was specifically designed by Shaolin kung fu masters to dominate all other
fighting styles and is the most efficient self defense system for men or women
against any size of attacker.
| Centerline |
| The
centerline runs down the center of your body. Your balance and strength
flow up from the ground out through your centerline and most attacks are
directed at your center. Therefore, we move away from the attack line,
using our centerline to counterattack on an angle where we are strong
and the opponent is weak, an angle where an opponent can not easily
defend or counter. |
| |
| Forward
Intention |
| Maintaining
forward intention, a dynamic forward energy even when still, allows you
to sense and counter an opponent more easily with less energy and allow
you to maximize economy of motion. |
| |
| Economy
of Motion
|
| Wing Chun
is not interested in beating around the bush, it goes directly to the
point, ending a conflict quickly with minimal effort. The ideal defense
is to end the conflict before a full attack can even be launched. |
| |
| Face
the Point of Contact
|
| Our
strength flows from the centerline, so we always face the point of
contact to maximize our energy and simplify the technique. Our defense
and counter attack will then maximize our strength and speed. This also
helps build confidence that we can dissolve attacks from any size of
attacker. |
| |
| Simplicity |
| Simplicity
is the overarching principle of Wing Chun. No flowery but impractical
moves are part of the system. Maintaining forward intention and keeping
it simple will allow you to maximize speed and end conflicts with the
least effort possible. As students progress from beginners to advanced,
they learn a lot of techniques but also learn the art of doing less for
maximized speed, power and self control. |
